Native IPv6 Available
Posted by Randy M. on January 03, 2011Native IPV6 is now available for all Fast Serv customers, free of charge.
Fast Serv is proud to announce immediate availability of native IPv6 address space to our clients, as well as native IPv6 support for our main website and support desk. Understanding that IPv6 implementation can be a daunting task, we’re offering free assistance with implementing a dual-stack (IPv4 + IPv6) configuration for any dedicated server or virtual server client. New and existing virtual and dedicated server customers may request IPv6 address space for free in addition to their existing IPv4 space via the Help Desk.
If you would like to test your own IPv6 connectivity, try loading ipv6.fastserv.com in your favorite browser—you’ll see the “IPv6 Ready” icon next to our logo at the top of every page on our site when connected over IPv6.
HE-AAC (AACplus) Transcoding Now Available
Posted by Randy M. on May 25, 2010We are pleased to announce the addition of native HE-AAC, otherwise known as AACplus or AAC+, live stream transcoding services with full configuration control in the Fast Serv Portal.
We are pleased to announce the addition of native HE-AAC, otherwise known as AACplus or AAC+, live stream transcoding services with full configuration control in the Fast Serv Portal. As with our existing MP3 and OGG Vorbis transcoding options, the HE-AAC encoders are completely Linux based and extremely stable, providing the critical service levels and up-time demanded by live broadcasters and Internet radio firms.
Although Fast Serv transcoders can input and output to any HTTP or ICY compatible streaming server (such as Shoutcast), when combined with our FLV-enabled Icecast hosting service, native Flash player support and mobile phone/PDA support is also made instantly possible with free tools provided to all Fast Serv Icecast hosting clients.
What is live stream transcoding?
Live stream transcoding involves taking an existing, lnternet-based radio (live) steam and converting it to a different format in real-time. It is used mainly to support the widest number of clients and players that require unique, non-MP3 formats. For example, most streaming software supports output in MP3 format only. To support HE-AAC or Ogg Vorbis, transcoding can be utilized to create additional streams in these formats. Another use for live stream transcoding is providing multiple bitrate streams. For example, 128kbps for broadband, and 24kbps for dial-up or rural listeners.
